Why Nursing at UVA
The University of Virginia School of Nursing is a national leader in nursing education with a firm commitment to clinical excellence, robust research and evidence based practice, and cultivating leadership in students and faculty. As one of eleven schools at the University of Virginia, the School of Nursing faculty and students are engaged in interprofessional education, multidisciplinary research, and the Jeffersonian concept of a community of learning.
A community of excellence. The U.Va. graduate nursing program is ranked #15 in the country (2011) placing it in the top 2% of nursing programs. The University is ranked as the #2 public university (US News, 2012) and is regularly considered one of the “best value” universities in the US.
The School is part of the U.Va Health System which includes a 570-bed hospital, level I trauma center, nationally recognized cancer and heart centers and primary and specialty clinics throughout Central Virginia. The Health System consistently ranks among the nation’s top hospitals.

 

The overwhelming amount of support I receive from my professors, my classmates, my clinical
instructors, and Dean Fontaine, is just one aspect that contributes to the warm and facilitative nature of
the SON. I love that I always have someone to turn to no matter the situation.
